SHELBY ─ Angel Gordan’s new business is more than a coffee shop. It is a place for families.

The entrepreneur opened Ivory Bean Coffee House in downtown Shelby with her mother-in-law, Paula. Gordan, the mother of eight children, said her family is the most important factor in her life. Combining that belief with Gordan’s passion for coffee, the family created a place where customers can play games and have a good time with their loved ones.

“We’ve had a lot of people meet here to catch up with old friends. I’ve had women sit here for hours, just catching up with people they haven’t seen for 20 years,” Gordon said. It’s really nice because you get to see people’s a little glimpse of people’s lives. It just makes you happy.”
