The late Anton Tasich said Friday the 13th auction would be perfect

Two days before he died, Anton Tasich said a Friday the 13th seemed a perfect date to auction off the contents of his iconic coffee shop at 937 S. Glenstone Ave.

After all, Tasich told auctioneer Glen Yutzy, the hole-in-the-wall restaurant had opened its door on April Fools’ Day in 1974.

Those interested in acquiring a piece of Springfield history can take a look inside starting at 8 a.m. March 13, Yutzy said.

The auction starts at 10 a.m. and he expects it to be over by 1 p.m. Cash and check — but not credit cards — will be accepted.

Fixtures, appliances, pots and pans hanging from the ceiling and memorabilia, such as old menus on the wall, will be sold. The business closed on March 1.

In addition, Tasich’s personal vehicle, a Lexus with about 30,000 miles on it, will be sold.
