DeKALB – DeKalb businessman Jim Mason wants to bring a drive-thru coffee and ice cream shop to 1406 Sycamore Road, to accompany Ruby’s Asian Market, CJ’s Gaming and the soon-to-arrive Eggsperience Cafe.

The ice cream and coffee parlor would be operated by the owners of Eggsperience Cafe, Fransisco and Lesly Morales, according to city documents. The new breakfast space will occupy the site once used by Flappy’s Pancake House after the former tenant was left to find new space when their lease wasn’t renewed. The Moraleses also own Los Panchos Mexican Restaurant in Sycamore. The four-tenant building at 1406 Sycamore Road is zoned for commercial use but the drive-thru component would require a special use permit.

The proposals will be the subject of a public hearing in front of the city’s Planning & Zoning Commission at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the DeKalb Municipal Building, 200 S. Fourth St.
