Legacy Coffee Co. is serving up hot latte's and uniquely brewed java a few doors down from its previous location in the Neapolis area in Columbia.

Just look for the new signage, the new drive-through window and the baristas' smiling faces at 2547 Nashville Hwy. Ste. B.

The coffee shop had operated from its previous location in the same strip mall for two years before leasing the new spot. Although the location is different, bringing more natural light, cozy alcoves and a sturdy work counter for those on a laptop, the concept remains the same.

Legacy Coffee Co. founder Joshua Merrill makes a latte at the shop's new location in Neapolis in Columbia alongside baristas Aly Garcia and Maddie Heiser.

"We focus on bringing light and hope to our customers. That has always been what it's about. Coffee is just a way to do it," said owner Joshua Merrill.

From a mobile trailer to a brick and mortar shop, Merrill's coffee company has grown into a popular spot in northern Columbia. People seem to flock to the shop to talk, work on their book and find comfort in the welcoming atmosphere.

"I like to say we have the best coffee in Neapolis (or the only coffee in Neapolis)," Merrill said in jest. "There are a lot of great roasters around here. There's not a lack of great artisan coffee, but we want to focus on giving back to the community and bringing hope.

"With Covid, it can seem so dark and heavy. There's a lot of hopelessness people have encountered. We want to brighten someone's day even if just for a moment."

Merrill said that he also wants to honor the hard work of teachers and those in the military by offering them a 10% standing discount on all beverages. Also paying homage to his upbringing, he also gives homeschool parents a 10% discount on drinks.

Merrill said he loves to see regular customers frequent the shop and welcomes newcomers everyday, explaining that he wants the shop to be a place "where community can happen."

The shop is open Monday-Friday from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is closed on Sunday.
