A national coffee chain’s Smyrna restaurant will have to undergo some changes after receiving a failing grade on its health inspection.

Dunkin’ Donuts at 3300 South Cobb Drive scored a 57, or U, on its Dec. 23 food service inspection conducted by the Cobb & Douglas Public Health Department. Anything below a 70 is considered failing.

This Dunkin’ Donuts scored B’s on its two previous inspections: 80 on Aug. 10, 2018, and 86 on April 27, 2017.

According to the inspector's report, a dead cockroach was observed in the rinsing part of a three-compartment sink. The ice machine's shield and interior also had an accumulation of pink slime and mold buildup, and an employee was seen washing his or her hands without using hot water.

Other violations include:

•A manager poured creamer in the hand sink at the sandwich station.

•A chemical bottle was observed next to a sink.

•The store had an empty towel dispenser and malfunctioning hand soap dispenser.

•Employees’ personal items (two water bottles and a cell phone charger) stored outside locker areas.

•An employee was preparing a sandwich while wearing a bracelet.

•No health inspection score was posted on the drive-thru window.

•The most current health inspection report was not prominently displayed in the restaurant.

A follow-up inspection is planned for Jan. 9. Company spokeswoman Jessica Schmidt said food safety is a “top priority” for Dunkin’ Donuts and its restaurants.

“We have stringent food safety and quality standards, and we take great pride in the food and beverages served to our guests every day,” she said. “We take matters such as these very seriously. Upon learning of this report, we contacted the franchisee, who owns and operates this location, immediately to confirm all food safety and quality standards are being followed.”
