Over four generations ago, our founder "Cap" Saurage created our signature dark roast coffee. This special blend is roasted dark to develop rich, smooth flavor with a deep chocolate profile. Our master roasters ensure the exact roast level is achieved to consistently create this deliciously complex coffee that remains a favorite today. This product contains a 3 pack of 12 ounces of whole bean coffee. Perfect for grinding to your liking, either coarse or fine. We recommend a coarse grind for French press or cold brewing. This coffee is a great bargain. It is fresh, and rich, with no bitterness. I really enjoy a good, dark-roasted coffee, and was very happy to discover Community Coffee. People who favor a dark roast coffee should know that this blend of dark roast does not have a smokey flavor. Some people prefer the smokey flavor to their coffee (myself included), so I want to be sure potential buyers are aware of this. It still makes a fine cup of coffee, so I would definitely recommend that someone buys it at least once to try it, especially if they do not have it regularly available in their part of the country (myself included, again).

This is a really great tasting coffee. I brew my coffee using fresh ground beans and a press every morning, so I am a bit particular about coffee. Actually, I am insane about preparation and quality of the coffee bean and I am always looking for the best bean with the best taste for the best price. After reading all of the other wonderful reviews (thank you reviewers), I decided to give this inexpensive brand a shot. Well, I am so very happy to say that it is delicious. The aroma is full, taste is bold and rich with a very long lasting lingering flavor after the last drop has been drunk. I am so happy with this that I became a subscribe and save member for it. My next purchase will be the French Roast for my daughter, but I can tell you that I am going to be staying with the Dark Roast for a very, very pleasantly long time. Yum

When looking for a coffee to use, I seek to balance flavor and cost. (With my fixed income, I drink to much to just get what I prefer - locally roasted small batch stuff. But, one pound of it is slightly more than the 3-pack of the CC Dark Roast.) I have been sampling coffees for about a year now, trying to one that balances flavor and cost. I prefer a dark roast, but one that is not overly acidic. Honestly, it is a toss up between the Community Coffee Dark Roast and their French Roast. I think the Dark Roast has the edge because it has less edge, if you will pardon my tortured pun. It has a rich flavor but without the sharpness one usually finds with a French Roast. Almost contradictorily, I would characterize this dark roasted coffee as mellow in its finish. I recommend it to all but the most fastidious snobs. For all of us regular folks, this makes a very satisfying and satisfactory cup of joe.

Our favorite coffee on the planet was Cafe' Rey Dark Roast from Costa Rica... until the small family plantation closed. (It was a very sad end to decades of awesome coffee!) We tried literally dozens of other coffees searching for a non-acidic, bold flavored coffee that was still mild and smooth. No special flavors or exotic nuances, just a really good cup of coffee - alone, with dinner, with dessert, or for the ride to work. This CC Dark Roast was the closest thing (not entirely as good, but the closest) that we could find to replace our favorite. Others may come and go from time to time, but this will always have a spot in our pantry.

Better than Breakfast Blend and Colombia Classico

The dark roast variety is exactly what I was looking for. I live very far away from Louisiana, but am consistently impressed with Community Coffee when visiting the gulf coast area. Amazon is the best way for me to get it at home. Not knowing which roast is used in Community Coffee shops, I also purchased the Breakfast Blend and Colombia Classico (both whole bean also). The Dark Roast is much much better, in my opinion. If you're not normally a dark roast person, don't be afraid to try this, it certainly isn't bitter or burned tasting. I think this might be what is served in Community Coffee shops, which is what I was looking for. This will remain a staple in my home!

Great whole bean dark roast coffee for my Jura Capresso

I normally use Illy whole coffee beans medium roast for my Jura Capresso S8 machine. Sometimes I use Illy dark roast which has a richer and stronger taste plus no aftertaste, but of course I can't always justify spending that much money all the time. Then I found this Community Coffee Whole Bean Dark Roast. I'm very happy with it because it is similar in taste to the Illy dark roast and is much, much less expensive. I'm sticking with this product from now on.

The coffee I received was fresh and has a brew by date printed on the bag. These beans have a nice hint of chocolate. You don't get a bitter after taste like you do with many dark roasted beans. You get a smooth, great tasting cup of coffee. I use a Breville BG800XL grinder just before I brew in my French press. I would recommend using a good grinder just before you brew, and a good French press to get the best results.
