A church-affiliated coffeehouse is looking for some help to stay afloat.

Core Cafe is a nonprofit church organization located in downtown La Salle and completely dependent on volunteers; however, they do their best not to feel like a typical “church coffee house.”

The cafe, located at 1021 First St. in the restaurant space next to the former Palace Bowl, smells like roasted espresso and is filled with lots of furniture to lounge on.

Since opening about a year and a half ago, the cafe hasn’t generated enough revenue to pay for the bills, said Ed Curry of La Salle.

The Abundant Life Fellowship, 450 Hennepin St, La Salle, supports the shop. The official pastors of the church are Ed Curry and his wife, Christy-Anne Curry, of La Salle.

The cafe has recently started a GoFundMe to help pay for things like rent, internet, utilities and the product.

The cafe’s target audience are Illinois Valley Community College students, and the cafe’s goal is to create a community of artists…
